Our good friend, Warren Hellman, a true Renaissance man and outstanding friend to bluegrass and old-time music, died on Dec. 18, 2011. His passing was reported in front page stories in all of the country's major newspapers, including the one he founded, Bay Citizen. Mr. Hellman was recognized throughout the bluegrass community for the festival he founded; Hardly, Strictly Bluegrass; which he provided to the public for free and which was attended annually by over 750,000 happy fans. He was a dedicated endurance athlete who had 5 World Championships to his credit, a renowned philantropist who gave not only money but also work and time to his causes, a successful banker and money manager of whom it was said, "He made money to give it away", as well as a promoter, performer, song-writer and lover of the banjo and of roots music. We have attached a short bio accessible by clicking on the Former "installments" link below.

OUR FESTIVALS
Please come join us at one or both (if you're a dedicated traveler) of the festivals that we host: High Mountain Hay Fever in Westcliffe, CO; and Grey Fox in Oak Hill, NY. We have some major, awesome and unique talent coming to each. But it won't be worth the trouble if you're not there.
There have been several requests for past installments of Ron's "rants." If you're tough enough, click here. Former "installments"
Also see our store for all available DBFS CDs.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our long time friends and supporters, especially Rounder Records and LaBella Strings and mention that it would be nearly impossible to continue without such support.

We would love to hear from you. And we need the practice at reading. We have recently made some changes which we hope will make our Guest Book more serviceable again. We regret that a hacker deleted our first 29 pages. Please post again.
Thanks, RT

Dry Branch Fire Squad plays aggressively traditional bluegrass music. For more than a quarter of a century they've been a too well-kept secret. It took a cattle prod to get them on the Web.
